About Lyn
Lyn has years of PR experience working with clients such as MTV, British Pathe, Chrysalis, the BBC, Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy, Glasgow City Council, Bacardi, Isle of Arran Distillers, Effingee Productions, Horse, Andrew Miller Promotions, Sound Control, Academy of Sound, NEC Music Live, Boulevard Entertainment, UK Festivals and X-Factor wrap parties.
In the beginning
Lyn began her career writing music and theatre reviews for local newspapers and magazines, and managing singers and bands.
The 90s
She worked for The Precious Organisation and did Scottish PR for Wet Wet Wet and John Harley. She wrote pop features for The Scottish Sun and was guest arts reviewer on QFM.
She was a co-founder of Bigwig, Scotland's music style monthly, and was awarded Cosmopolitan Magazine's woman of achievement prize for media.
Her PR skills led her to work with clients such as Chrysalis, Joan Armatrading, NEC's Music Live, MTV, Sound Control, Bacardi Unsigned, Glasgow City Council, Jose Cuervo and many more.
After working with Nordoff-Robbins in London, she helped set up the Scottish committee of the charity, and organised the first ever Tartan Clef Awards, whose recipients included Sharleen Spiteri, Lulu, Simple Minds and Jimmy Shand.
Lyn launched whisky on the Isle of Arran with Ewan McGregor, opened new music stores with the late Noel Redding and Hank Marvin, and was invited to become a director of Chrysalis's bid for the Central Scotland Regional Radio Licence alongside Billy Connolly.
The naughties
In 2000 Lyn joined BBC Scotland as full-time publicist and press officer and remained there for 5 years. Her time in LA at the Grammies with members of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra resulted in a front-page story in the Los Angeles Times.
She orchestrated the promotions surrounding Radio Scotland's 25th anniversary, and during her time there she publicised all genres from Balamory to Live & Kicking, from Comedy Connections to The Elaine C. Smith Show, from Gaelic karaoke during the MOD, to helping to launch River City.
In a freelance capacity, she has worked again with BBC Scotland, its orchestra and outreach and educational activites, and publicised the first BBC Film Festival on Glasgow Green in 2007.
She promoted Effingee Productions and its studio and production facility to broadcast media. In 2008 she organised the Scottish launch of 'the armchair season ticket' with a season of football DVDs of Rangers and Celtic.
The teens
Most recently, Lyn has been working in the area she loves best — music and entertainment, from the winner of the Elvis World Cup, Johnny Lee Memphis, to Scottish press for Joe Longthorne with Artistes Direct, from Fèis Rois's traditional music-making tuition events to Dannsa's step-dancing tutorial DVD. With LDA Communications in London, summer 2009 saw her help publicise the 80s Rewind Festival in Henley, Michael Ball's birthday concert in West Wycombe and Silverstone's Racing & Rocking with Blue, Santana and The Pussycat Dolls. She also worked on the X-Factor wrap party, and with Cathy Beck in London helped to announce British Pathe's change of hands.
And on a personal note, Lyn is one half of the team behind Badger the Mystical Mutt, a series of illustrated children’s stories for 5- to 8-year-olds, subtly and humorously addressing issues such as bullying, disability and prejudice.
